Marshfield, WI (OnFocus) The Common Council discussed the re-opening of City-owned buildings and facilities after the Wisconsin Supreme Court’s overturn of the Safer at Home order.

During a special meeting on Thursday, the Council voted to keep City-owned buildings and facilities as they were under the Safer at Home order for the next few weeks.

Alderman Ed Wagner stated he received a call from a citizen asking the City to reinstate the Safer at Home order, but said there’s not a way for the City to enforce such an order without adopting an ordinance. He urged citizens and businesses to follow guidelines for COVID-19 issued by the CDC and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation.

Alderman Rebecca Spiros said she was against the City enforcing any Safer at Home measure for Marshfield, and that it’s up to businesses how to proceed with re-opening. “I don’t think we should enforce any stricter guidelines or rules as a city,” she said.

The Common Council will discuss a procedure for re-opening buildings and facilities to the public at its next meeting on May 26. Most services offered by the City have continued through the Safer at Home order.
