Statewide Availability of Marriage Certificates to Expand

(OnFocus) It will soon be easier for married individuals to obtain a copy of their marriage certificates.

Starting January 2, any Wisconsin Register of Deeds office can accommodate requests for the certificate, said Tiffany Ringer, Wood County Register of Deeds.

Certificates of divorce are available statewide for divorces occurring on or after January 1, 2016 to present.

Currently, the Register of Deeds office can issue birth certificates from all Wisconsin counties. Certificates of death are available statewide for deaths occurring on or after September 1, 2013.

Not all vital records are available statewide. The State Vital Records Office works with the Register of Deeds offices to add or update specific vital records on demand with the goal of having all eligible records available.

Statewide issuance is an easier and more efficient method of providing access to Wisconsin vital records, Ringer noted.
