Counties, City of Marshfield to Begin Enacting Weight Restrictions on Roads

Wood and Clark Counties Announce Spring Restrictions

MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – Area highway departments are gearing up for spring as seasonal weight limits are being introduced.

Clark County

The Clark County Highway Department has announced that pursuant to State Statute 349.16, Clark County Highways will be posted for seasonal weight limits as of March 16th, 2022.

The weight restrictions are 6 tons gross load per axle and 10 tons gross load for any two axles under 8 feet apart. 

All vehicles not meeting the seasonal weight posting are required to have a permit. There are no “exempt” products, materials, nor industries. Permits are located on the department website located at www.clarkcountywi.com and may be submitted by email. Permits are reserved for only those loads meeting the criteria. 

Wood County

Wood County Highway weight restrictions are already posted and those guidelines will begin on Tuesday, March 15th.

Limits on Wood County Highways are 6 tons gross load per axle and 10 tons gross load for any two axles under 8 feet apart. There is also a maximum limit of 24 tons or 48,000 pounds.

Please watch for postings. These restrictions will remain in effect for the duration of the spring thaw, until posting are removed. 

Any weight restrictions on State, City, Village or Town roads are the authority of each individual entity. 

Marshfield

Effective Wednesday, March 16, 2022, the City of Marshfield Street Division will be placing signs on streets for seasonal weight restrictions. All signs are planned to be properly displayed by noon on Thursday, March 17, 2022. The streets posted are expected to be the same as in 2021, please see the truck routes, here.

We anticipate the seasonal weight restrictions to be in effect until late April or early May. The seasonal weight restrictions are as follows:

  • Six (6) ton gross vehicle weight for single axle vehicles
  • Ten (10) ton gross vehicle weight for tandem axle vehicles
