Cyclones sweep Peoria to improve to 6-1-0-0

(Wausau, WI) – The Wausau Cyclones took on the Peoria Mustangs over the weekend at the Owens Center looking to keep their grip on first place in the Central Division. Wausau won 5-1 on Friday night and won 6-1 on Saturday evening. The two victories move the Cyclones record to 6-1-0-0, which keeps the team in 1st place in the Central Division and moves their winning streak to four.

Friday night, Wausau got on the scoreboard at 7:34 of the 1st period when Chase Chapman found the back of the net for his 1st of the season with an assist from Jake Garrow. Forward Truman Zerse extended the lead early in the 2nd period, which was assisted by Eiji Hofmann. Peoria would answer back just six minutes later to make it a 2-1 game. That would be as close the Mustangs would come as Wausau would close out the 2nd period with three more goals. Those goals came from Brandon Piwko, David Polifka and John Kriz. Goalie Tanner Bonjernoor picked up the win in net for Wausau after stopping 8 of 9 shots.

Saturday night’s game got off to a good start thanks to NA3HL Star of the Week Jake Garrow scored his 6th goal in just seven games. Forward Chase Chapman made it a 2-0 game at 11:41 of the second period. Alec Mellon joined the fun two minutes later with his first junior goal. Wausau would go on to add three more goals in the 3rd period to wrap up the series sweep. Scoring in the final frame for Wausau was Jake Garrow, Alec Mellon and Connor Dvorak. Tanner Bonjernoor picked up the win after stopping 22 of 23 shots.
