Cyclones sweep St. Louis to remain tied for first-place
(Wausau, WI) βThe Wausau Cyclones took on the St. Louis Jr. Blues Friday night and Saturday night at Marathon Park. Wausau won 5-0 Friday and 8-2 Saturday to improve their season record to 31-9-0-1.
Friday nightβs contest started off with a goal from forward Kalob Paquin at 2:02 of the 1stΒ period. Wausau would lead 1-0 after one. The second period saw the Clones extend their lead with goals from Dominick Bourdon (7) and Adam Wiggins (4). The Cyclones would add third period goals from Connor Dvorak (22) and John Kriz (20) to seal the 5-0 win. Brady Faille was solid in net after stopping 24 of 24 shots to earn the shutout win.
Saturday night saw Wausau put together another dominating performance to earn the weekend sweep. John Kriz got the scoring started with a goal at 12:49 of the first period. The goal was his 21stΒ on the season. Ricky Nelson then added his 19thΒ to make it a 2-0 game. St. Louis would answer back with their first goal of weekend after Fred Bramstedt got one past Cyclones goalie Tanner Bonjernoor. Saturday would prove to be a special night for forward Ricky Nelson. Nelson would net the next two goals to complete a hat-trick at 1:48 of the second period. He added a 4thΒ goal later in the period, which was his 22ndΒ of the season.Β Wausau would add goals from Easton Plachetka, Antonio Gomez and Adam Wiggins to close out the win. Tanner Bonjernoor earned the win after stopping 23 of 25 shots.
