D.C. Everest graduate and standout student-athlete Cole Stevens answers our world-famous interview: ‘Pancakes or Waffles?’ Read on to find out the scoop on Stevens…

OnFocus: What subjects/classes have been your favorite, and why?

Stevens: I’ve always liked biology and health related classes. As a senior my favorite classes were Human Bio, and Medical Terminology.

OnFocus:: What are your hobbies?

Stevens: I love to lift, throw, and golf. I probably golf too much

OnFocus: Who is/was your first favorite teacher and why?

Stevens: My first favorite teacher was Mrs. Thompson. She was my 3rd grade teacher. Mrs
Thompson was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. My family and I even met up with
her after she moved schools, and got lunch.

OnFocus: What is the most unusual food you have eaten?

Stevens: The snack I eat daily is cottage cheese and chips. That’s probably not very weird, but some people may think it is.

OnFocus: What is your favorite music to listen to?

Stevens: I like rap the most, but I also like rock, country, and pop throwbacks.

OnFocus: What are your plans after high school?

Stevens: I’m throwing the hammer, shot put, and discus for Illinois State University!

OnFocus: If they made a movie about you, and your life, what would it be called?

Stevens: I can’t think of any title that would be not cringey, so ima go with Forest Gump

OnFocus: What sports did you play throughout your high school career?

Stevens: I played basketball for 2 years, but realized I was no good. So I just stuck to football and track

OnFocus: Which teammate would you not want to be stranded with on a deserted
island?

Stevens:I wouldn’t want to be stuck on an island with Carson Davczyk because he would take all the food

OnFocus:What are some memorable moments you have had as an athlete?

Stevens: My sophomore year of track, at state, was wild. It rained so much that you really
couldn’t see what was in front of you. Throwing in that was insane.

OnFocus: Who are your favorite athletes and/or teams?

Stevens: Ryan Crouser is the athlete that I like the most. I don’t really have a team preference, but I grew up watching the Packers.

OnFocus: What do you enjoy most about competing in front of family, friends and fans?

Stevens: I just want to make my family proud, and I can do that best by competing!

OnFocus: Do you have a funny or unusual moment(s) you have experienced in
sports?

Stevens: As a sophomore on the varsity football roster, because of Covid we started so late in the year, that practice often had snow. One of those days every varsity football player got into a snowball fight at the end of practice, even coaches got involved.

OnFocus: What’s the best thing about being a student-athlete at D.C. Everest?

Stevens: It teaches you what real life will be like. How hard life can get, and it teaches you time management.

OnFocus: What words of wisdom can you give to other student-athletes?

Stevens: Just keep pushing, sports have been the most rewarding, but at the same time the most frustrating thing I’ve ever been a part of. I wouldn’t take any of it back though, so enjoy your time because high school goes fast.

OnFocus: Lastly, pancakes or waffles?

Stevens: Waffles, no doubt
