D.C. Everest Wins in 2OT over SPASH in WVC Thriller

A Wisconsin Valley Conference matchup with D.C. Everest and Stevens Point became an instant classic as Everest defeated SPASH 47-41 in 2 overtimes. The contest saw 9 ties and lead changes and had more than its fair share of drama after halftime.

The teams traded blows in the first quarter before Everest built a 28-14 halftime lead. The Evergreens looked like they had things in hand when their lead mushroomed to 35-14 late in the third quarter before things became interesting.

Cohen Priebe took the ensuing kickoff 82 yards for a score just twelve seconds later. SPASH then scored a pair of touchdowns late in the fourth quarter, and the rivals headed to overtime tied at 35.

Everest then took the lead in the first overtime on a Logan George to Cole O’Brien 10 yard score, failing on the extra point. SPASH responded with a 25 yard strike from Grant Chandonais to Jonny Ananiadis, also missing the extra point.

The Evergreens then picked up the win in the second overtime as Logan George hit paydirt from one yard out.

Ananiadis led SPASH with 5 catches for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Johnny Mathews had 149 yards rushing on 20 carries and two touchdowns.

Blake Bangston had a monster night for Everest, rushing for 249 yards on 45 carries and a pair of touchdowns, and also collected 112 yards receiving on 5 receptions and a touchdown reception.

D.C. Everest takes over sole possession of first place in the WVC with a 5-1 record. Stevens Point and Marshfield are tied at 4-2. Everest travels to Eau Claire Memorial in Week 9, with Marshfield at Stevens Point to end the season next week.
