MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – On November 15, 2022 at approximately 10:42am Marshfield Police Officers and Wood County Deputies responded to 309 S. Sycamore Ave in response to a welfare check of a 41-year-old Marshfield woman, Melissa L. Wright.

According to a statement from MPD, a co-worker of Melissa called Marshfield Police Department concerned when Melissa did not show up to work. Upon arrival to the residence officers observed a vehicle registered to Heath A. Heck ( 48 years old) parked in the driveway. The front door was damaged consistent with a break-in.

Officers performed a protective sweep where Melissa and Heath were both found in a bedroom deceased. The investigation revealed that Heath shot Melissa, killing her, then turned the gun on himself.

Melissa and Heath were once married, but divorced in 2020. They have two children, who were both found unharmed in a separate location. Both of the children are currently with family.

“On behalf of the Marshfield Police Department, our hearts go out to the families involved in this situation,” they stated. “Don’t hesitate to reach out to our department if you feel we can assist in any way. We are thankful that Melissa’s co-worker took it upon herself to call our department. Without your call the conclusion to this case would have undoubtedly been prolonged. We would also like to thank the Wood County Sheriff Department for their assistance.

Lastly, domestic violence plagues many families. We urge anyone who is experiencing, or knows anyone else who is experiencing domestic abuse to reach out for help. Please call the police in your jurisdiction and take advantages of all the resources available.”
