  • Detroit Lions were the most foul-mouthed, cursing 288 times online in last year alone

  • Jacksonville Jaguars fans are the least likely to use curse words in the NFL

A new study has revealed the NFL fans that swear the most, and Detroit Lions fans have been named the most foul-mouthed fanbase.

The research from FlashPicks, a betting picks, parlays, predictions, and news brand, aims to uncover the rudest fanbases in the NFL and reveal their favorite curse words.

To do so, they analyzed each NFL team’s official subreddit page, altogether making up over 8.6 million fans, and then calculated the number of swear words posted in the last year, to determine which NFL fans curse the most.

The study revealed that Detroit Lions fans are the rudest fans in the NFL, with a score of 10 out of 10. A whopping 288 curse words were posted in the Lions’ Reddit fan forum in the last year alone.

Lions fans’ favorite curse word was found to be the ‘F-word’, which was used 59 times. The Lions large membership base of 237,400 people were also most likely to drop the ‘C-bomb’, with three posts featuring the obscene curse word. Not to mention they rank first for using the term ‘b**ch’ as well, a shocking 27 times.

In comparison, NFC North rivals the Green Bay Packers fans rank in 11th place for the most foul-mouthed fanbase, with a score of 5.8 out of 10. Packers fans’ posts included 158 curse words from their 462,300 fans on their subreddit.

Although, one thing they do have in common with Lions fans is their favorite curse word, which was found to be ‘f**k’, and used a considerable 43 times.

The New York Jets fans complete the top ten, with a score of 5.9 out of 10 and 170 swear words posted. Jets fans frequently call ‘bulls**t’, at seven times – the third most of all NFL fans.

At the other end of the spectrum, the Jacksonville Jaguars fans were found to be the most polite fanbase in the NFL, with a score of 1.6 out of 10. The Jaguars fans on their subreddit posted just 48 swear words in the last year.

Commenting on the research, Callum Broxton, Head of Operations at FlashPicks said: “Passion is a hallmark for NFL fans across the US, with fans showing their support for their teams in a range of different ways, whether it be in the stadium cheering on their team or posting support on social media.

“In the heat of the game things can boil over, not just with players but with fans too, and we’ve seen online the lengths fans will go to to support or defend their team. This study goes to show some of the more fierce supporters in the NFL, although it’s worth bearing in mind that foul-mouthed fans are in the minority, as less than 1% of the words used on each subreddit were curse words.”
