Figi’s Absence Felt at Holiday Season
Marshfield, WI (OnFocus) The traditional sight of a “Seasons Greetings” sign on the Figi’s corporate office building has been notably absent this year, another symbol of the void left by the closure of the 75-year-old homegrown company which saw its busiest time during the Christmas season.
Figi’s Birchland Market and Gifts in Good Taste®, were all eliminated along with 276 positions by March of this year. The layoffs were announced in early January. Figi’s Outlet Store on N. Central Ave. also closed in January and is currently being remodeled to serve as Pizza Ranch in early 2020.
Mason Companies, Inc., which purchased Figi’s Companies in 2013, continues to operate Figi’s Gallery online, shipping its home and gift items anywhere in the U.S. Its call centers were offering seasonal employment.
The holiday displays which had greeted drivers to the south side of Marshfield since 1989 may be absent, but the former Figi’s corporate office building will soon find its 64,000 square feet utilized by a new tenant, Nelson-Jameson, Inc., which is moving its headquarters and 90 of its over 200 employees to the space.
Remodeling is still being completed with no move-in date yet in place, according to a company representative. A ribbon cutting and open house is planned in late spring or early summer.
