Marshfield, WI (OnFocus) A National Prescription Drug Take Back Day will be held on Saturday, April 27.
The event aims to combat drug addiction, prevent overdose deaths, and protect the environment from improper disposal. In Marshfield, items can be taken to Walmart at 2001 N. Central Ave. from 10-2 p.m.
The problem of prescription drug abuse has only increased – overdose deaths were five times higher in 2016 than 1999 according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Most of these drugs are taken from family and friends.

Participants are allowed to bring in the following items:
• Prescriptions (controlled and non-controlled) remove personal information from bottles
• Over-the-counter medications
• Creams*
• Inhalers
• Non-aerosol sprays*
• Liquids*
• Ointments
• Patches
• Pet medications
• Vials
Participants should not bring:
• Aerosol cans
• Bio-hazardous materials (anything containing a bodily fluid or blood)
• Household hazardous waste (paint, pesticides, oil, gas)
• Illegal drugs
• Needles/sharps**
• Mercury thermometers
• Personal care products (shampoo, soaps, lotions, sunscreens, etc.)
*These items must be in original packaging to be accepted.
**Needles/sharps can be disposed at the Aspirus Riverview Hospital main entrance, Marshfield Clinic Health System emergency room entrance, and Marshfield Police Department main lobby.
