OnFocus – More details have been reported pertaining to an April 12 incident involving a vehicle crashing into a North Central Avenue building. The building houses All Insurance Agency and The Hair Gallery. The car struck the portion of the building housing the salon.

According to police reports, the vehicle’s operator was in the Perkins parking lot to use their wifi when he learned some upsetting news. He exited the parking lot onto W Jefferson Street with the intention of turning west (right) on Jefferson to head home.

He accelerated quickly and said his steering wheel would not turn. He then drove out of the parking lot and straight across Jefferson St before collideing with the south side of the ditch and then the northwest corner of the building at 1110A N Central Ave.

As a result, the building walls were pushed in, causing shelving, a chair, desk, and hair salon work station to be thrust to the south and damaged.

The driver suffered minor injuries in the form of a cut to the top of his left hand and was treated by the responding ambulance. He refused further treatment on scene.

His girlfriend responded and said the man had intentionally struck the building to harm himself. In a later statement, the driver said his girlfriend misunderstood his statement about striking the building and maintained the accident was due to speed and vehicle malfunction with no intentionality. The investigation continues.
