Edgar (OnFocus) – It’s been a long wait for football fans and football teams to start the 2020 season. The wait is finally over, and the season is now here.
We take a look at the Edgar Wildcats with our Season Preview. We reached out to Coach Jerry Sinz for some thoughts on this football season, giving us a glimpse into how the Wildcats are getting ready for this year.
OnFocus: How has your coaching staff and team prepared for this season?
Sinz: In setting our Team Goals this year, goal No. 1 is to keep our team healthy
for the entire season so we can play each week. Goal No. 2 was we hope our
opponents stay healthy so they agree to play us each Friday night. These goals
are very different from what we have set the past 45 years.
OnFocus: What are some positives that have come out of practice and the season being delayed?
Sinz: Our players and Coaches have prepared extremely hard for this season.
With the start of the season set back 5 weeks by the WIAA Board of Control
our players worked out for 9 weeks instead of the normal 4 weeks. We began
the season faster and stronger than we have ever been. Coaches and players
have been obeying all WIAA and Marathon County recommendations on wearing
masks, individual water bottles, sanitizing hands before and after practices, social
distancing in locker room and at practice, etc.
OnFocus: Season forecast – What should fans expect to see out of your team this year?
Sinz: We are a very experienced, deep and fast team. Our Seniors have played 28
games the past two seasons, playing in the state Championship game in 2018
and 2019. Our main goal is to have “Fun” and play as many games as possible.
Our Varsity roster size is being limited to 30 players which is very different for us.
We are accustomed to playing 40-50 players most games.
