Edgar(OnFocus) – Voting for the OnFocus Athlete of the Week, May 16-May 22 saw a spirited turnout for the race to be recognized as the AOW.
Edgar’s Mikayla Wirkus received 979 votes to take the title, defeating fellow softball player Elle Gauerke of Athens, who had 763 votes.
Third place went to Martha Miller of Medford with 446 votes. Fourth place was earned by Jenna Baumann of DC Everest with 327 votes.
OnFocus Athlete of the Week Nominees, Week of May 16 – May 22
- Kate Eithun, Assumption Girls Soccer – Eithun has been a human shield for the Royals this season, who are alone at the top of the Mid-Western Wisconsin standings with a 5-0 mark, 6-0-2 overall. While the Royals have scored 33 goals, Eithun has given up just one goal.
- Martha Miller, Medford Softball – Miller has been virtually untouchable this season, giving up just 10 hits in 36 innings. Miller has given up just 9 walks and struck out 79 batters.

- Jenna Baumann, DC Everest Girls Soccer – Baumann has an astounding 27 goals for the Evergreens this season, in 9 games. Baumann’s 27 goals is second in the state, and paired with her 4 assists, Baumann is third in total points in the state.
- Elle Gauerke, Athens Softball – Gauerke came up big for Athens in the BlueJays 7-6 win over Marawood Conference North leader Phillips. Gauerke collected 3 hits in 4 at bats and 3 RBI. Gauerke also doubled and homered for Athens.
- Mikayla Wirkus, Edgar Softball – The Wildcats’ freshman pitcher came up huge for Edgar in their 4-3 defeat of previously unbeaten Assumption. Wirkus gave up just 5 hits while striking out 11 in Edgar’s win. Wirkus picked up her league-leading 6th win in the contest. She also was 3X3 and scored two runs for Edgar.
