Shrimp A Popular Lent Option at El Mezcal
The season of Lent is upon us and OnFocus is highlighting local restaurants offering options for those observing the holiday.
“Many people choose not to eat meat during this season, so we try to offer seafood options and other entrees that they can enjoy,” said Andres Aguirre, general manager at El Mezcal in Marshfield. “These are available year-round, but people especially enjoy them in the weeks leading up to Easter.”
El Mezcal has an entire seafood menu, which includes everything from Shrimp fajitas to Shrimp nachos.
“Our Shrimp Fajitas are popular,” said Aguirre. “They feature shrimp sauteed with onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes, then garnished with lettuce, guacamole, sour cream, and pico de gallo.”
Wisconsinites can especially enjoy the “Filete Empanizado,” aka “Fish Fry” featuring haddock fish fillets fried to a golden brown, served with Mexican rice or French fries and house salad.
Newer to the menu is the Shrimp Vallarta, which features grilled shrimp placed on top of a bed of Mexican rice, smothered with cheese sauce and served with lettuce, sour cream, and tomato on the side.
“We are always improving upon our menu and like to add new things,” said Aguirre. “We pride ourselves on our fresh seafood options and hope everyone has a chance to enjoy them this season.”
