Methodology

The study used data from Google Keyword Planner to reveal the rankings. Following this process, a list of initial search terms was established based on the most commonly Googled terms relating to adventure activities, like camping, snowboarding, hiking, etc. The monthly average search volume over the past 12 months for each term in each state was taken from Google Keyword Planner. The number of average monthly searches in this one-year period in each location was compared against its population to establish the average searches per 100,000 people, allowing for accurate comparison of search rates across locations of differing sizes. The full list of activities for which related terms were analyzed is as follows: hiking, camping, trail running, skiing, snowboarding, scuba diving, backpacking, skydiving, rock climbing, and mountain biking. For the full list of terms analyzed please get in touch.
