The board for the Chestnut Center for the Arts has decided to cut its executive director position and move to a volunteer-based system.
Adam Smrcka has served in the position for 6 years. The board discussed the move with Smrcka two weeks ago and he has spent time preparing the center for the transition to keep programs moving forward with the same quality.
“A lot of nonprofits are struggling,” Smrcka said. “It’s a tough situation. I understand the move they made.”
He took the position after working a decade in higher education administration to make a difference in the community.
“It’s a dream job. If that was meant for me to be there for a certain amount of time, I’m grateful for it,” he said.
