Winter seems to get worse each year as we age. Our bones and joints are less equipped to handle low temperatures, severely hindering our ability to complete everyday errands. To be able to age gracefully and enjoy all our activities in later life, we have to be proactive about our health.

This is especially true for those who are already in their golden years. These folks are already experiencing the pain of old age, and many of the remedies being offered are expensive or ineffective. As Arthur Gautier, spokesperson and tea expert at Nio Teas, states, “Too many people are turning to medication instead of exploring inexpensive, natural, and effective solutions that have been around for centuries.”

Here, Arthur reveals his special tea recipe, using ginger and turmeric, to relieve joint pain at a low cost.

Benefits of Drinking This Tea

“Ginger and turmeric tea is a popular natural remedy that has been used for centuries to improve health and alleviate various ailments,” proclaims Arthur. “While both herbs have their own individual benefits, when combined in a tea, they create a powerful blend of nutrients that promote overall well-being.”

Reduces Joint Pain and Inflammation: One of the most well-known benefits of ginger and turmeric tea is its anti-inflammatory properties. “Ginger and turmeric contain compounds called gingerols and curcumin, which have strong anti-inflammatory qualities and can help relieve pain and swelling in joints,” says Arthur.

Affordable and Natural Remedy: Unlike medications, this herbal tea has no side effects and is safe for regular consumption. For elderly individuals on a budget, this is an excellent alternative to expensive pain medication or supplements.

Boosts the Immune System: “As we age, our immune system becomes weaker, making us more vulnerable to infections and illnesses. The combination of these two powerful herbs in tea form can bolster the body’s immune response, helping elderly people stay healthy and ward off infections,” says Arthur.

Expert Explains Exactly How to Make Ginger & Turmeric Tea

Step 1: Gather the necessary ingredients and equipment

1-inch piece of fresh ginger root, 1-inch piece of fresh turmeric root (or one teaspoon of ground turmeric), 1 cup of water, small saucepan, grater or sharp knife, fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth, mug.

Step 2: Prep the ginger and turmeric

Peel the ginger and turmeric roots and grate them with a grater or sharp knife. If using ground turmeric, skip this step.

Step 3: Boil the water

In a small saucepan, bring 1 cup of water to a boil.

Step 4: Add ginger and turmeric to the water

Once the water is boiling, add the grated ginger and turmeric to the saucepan. If using ground turmeric, add it directly to the water.

Step 5: Let it simmer

Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 5-10 minutes. This will allow the ginger and turmeric flavors to infuse into the water.

Step 6: Strain the mixture

Strain the tea mixture into a mug using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth. This will remove any remaining bits of ginger and turmeric.

Arthur adds, “To get the most benefits from ginger and turmeric, consume them regularly. Incorporate them into your daily routine by drinking more tea, adding them to your cooking, making smoothies, or taking them as supplements.”

Dosage Recommendations

“The recommended daily dose of ginger for adults is 4 grams; for turmeric, it’s 1-3 grams. To make a cup of ginger and turmeric tea, you will need approximately 1-2 teaspoons of grated ginger and 1 teaspoon of ground turmeric,” suggests Arthur.

Tips to Drink More Tea

  • Start your day with a cup of ginger and turmeric tea – The anti-inflammatory properties of these spices can help reduce morning stiffness and joint pain. You can enjoy it with a slice of lemon and honey for added flavor and antioxidants.

  • Use it as a midday pick-me-up – Instead of reaching for a caffeinated drink or snack, try sipping on a cup of ginger and turmeric tea. The combination of these two spices can help improve blood circulation and provide a natural energy boost.

  • Substitute your afternoon snack – “Substitute a typical sugar-laden snack with a cup of ginger and turmeric tea. The combination of these spices can help balance blood sugar levels and reduce cravings,” Arthur states.

  • Use it as a pre-meal drink – “Consuming a warm cup of ginger and turmeric tea approximately 30 minutes before a meal can stimulate digestion by increasing saliva and stomach acid production. This can help prevent bloating, gas, and other digestive issues,” says Arthur.

  • Add it to your bedtime routine – Ginger and turmeric have naturally soothing properties that can help improve sleep quality. Sipping on a warm cup of ginger and turmeric tea before bedtime can promote relaxation and provide more restful sleep.

Arthur Gautier, spokesperson and tea expert at Nio Teas, comments;

“Ginger turmeric tea is ideal for elderly individuals seeking relief from joint pain during colder months. Ginger and turmeric are both known for their anti-inflammatory properties, and when combined in a tea, their effects are amplified.

“Drinking a cup of ginger turmeric tea can also have overall health benefits for seniors. It can improve digestion, boost immunity, and provide antioxidants to protect against cell damage. This tea’s spicy and warming nature provides a comforting and cozy feeling during colder months.”
