Opening Ceremony at Farm Technology Days, July 10, 2018.

by Kenni Bores, Ag Correspondent – D&B Sternweis Farm and Weber’s Farm Store will be the hub of all things agriculture and farming. Wood County is hosting Wisconsin Farm Technology Days for the first time since 1960, on July 10-12.

Three years ago, Wood County accepted the daunting task of hosting Farm Technology Days. Since then, hundreds of volunteers have tirelessly dedicated hours of their time to organizing the event. Next week, thousands of volunteers are pitching in time to help the event run smoothly. Over the past years, the members of the committees have recruited vendors, planned the layout of Tent City, and decided the story of Wood County to be told.

When asked what it takes to plan an event of this scale, Future Generations Area Co-Chair Mark Cournoyer said, “We have a great group of people on our committee. These are get-it-done kind of folks. That is what it takes to put on a show of this magnitude.”

Even though Farm Technology Days might seem like it is geared directly towards people directly involved in the agriculture industry, there will be something for everyone to enjoy. The Future Generations area, the size of a football field, will have everything from llamas, to a 35-foot tower that attendees can climb and explore careers in arboriculture. The Future Generations area will be featuring the Marshfield Police Departments MRAP vehicle.

Innovation Square will be the home of all the newest agriculture technologies including a new milking robot, a representation of a cranberry marsh, and a model of the World’s Largest Round Barn.

Innovation Square’s chair Dave Homb is looking forward to the event for many reasons. “I’m excited about everything. Seeing all the people, showcasing Wood County, geeking out over all the new equipment and the food – especially the ice cream!”

Farm Technology Days will be hosted by the Sternweis, Weber, and Heiman families just outside of Marshfield.
