Marshfield (OnFocus) – With many people sheltering at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been significantly fewer traffic stops in the City of Marshfield.
Comparing data between April-July of 2019 and April-July of 2020, Marshfield Police Department conducted about 650 fewer traffic stops during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic than in the previous year.
“We are down traffic stops in 2020,” said Chief Rick Gramza. “There were roughly 2300 in that time frame in 2019 and 1650 in 2020.”
Gramza attributes the decline in stops to COVID-19, primarily because there were fewer people driving during the Safer At Home order.
OWI’s increased, drug arrests remained about the same, and warrant apprehensions decreased.
In 2019, there were 34 OWI’s; in 2020 during the same months there were 59. Drug arrests increased by 3 (from 89 to 92), while warrant apprehensions decreased from 159 in 2019 to 39 in 2020 (comparing the same months).
