Fifty-Four Individiual Champions & First Girls Team Champion Crowned

MADISON, Wis. – The 2025 State Individual Wrestling Tournament concluded Saturday at the Kohl Center with multiple champions crowned across three boys’ divisions and one girls’ division, which produced the first girls’ team champion in the sport’s history.

Milton captured the first girls’ team title with 62 points, and Freedom finished runner-up with 56 points. Fifty-four individuals earned championships, including 42 boys in three divisions and 12 in the girls’ division.

Seniors Co’ji Campbell of Kenosha St. Joseph Catholic and Danny Heiser of Evansville and cemented their legacies, joining the exclusive list of Wisconsin’s all-time greats as four-time champions, both finishing their seasons undefeated. They are two of 31 wrestlers to accomplish the feat in the history of the tournament. Campbell notched a 9-2 decision in the final of the 126-pound weight class of Division 3 to finish the season with a 54-0 record. Previously, Campbell won the 113 title in 2022 and the 120 championship in 2023 and 2024. Heiser won the final in Division 2 at 157 with a 19-2 technical fall, finishing the season at 52-0. His previous titles came at 120 in 150 last season, 132 in 2023 and 120 in 2022.

There were four boys’ three-time champions. In Division 1, senior Liam Neitzel of Hudson (58-1) captured his third State title with a 19-3 tech. fall in the final at 132. He won also won the gold at 120 in 2024 and at 106 in 2023. Senior Kellen Wolbert of Oconomowoc (58-1) scored a 4-2 decision in the final at 144 for his third straight championship. His previous titles were at 132 last season and at 120 in 2023.

In Division 2, junior Haakon Peterson of Dodgeville (53-0) is a three-time champion following a 16-1 tech. fall in the 144 final after earning the 113 title last season and at 106 in 2023. Senior Tristan Steldt of Fennimore (39-3) won his third title following a 10-0 major decision in the final at 165. He adds to the gold medals he won in Division 3 at 157 last year and at 160 in 2022.

There were seven boys’ wrestlers that won their second title. In Division 1, sophomore William DuChemin of Wilmot (46-4) won at 113 with a 14-5 major decision in the final after capturing the title at 106 last year, and senior Jacob Herm of Neenah (53-1) posted a 14-0 major decision in his championship match-up at 165 after winning at 144 last season. Junior Liam Crook of Kaukauna (51-1) is a back-to-back champion after winning at 165 last year and earning the 175 crown this year with an 8-7 decision in the final.

In Division 2, senior Owen Seffrood of Darlington/Black Hawk (47-0) earned his second championship by going undefeated following a 4-2 decision in the 150 title bout after conquering the 144 weight class a year ago.

Aidan Gruenenfelder (59-0) of Pecatonica/Argyle added to his championship collection, capturing his second consecutive title with a 6-5 victory in the Division 3 championship bout at 120, which comes on the heels of a 106 championship last year. Senior Wyatt Unser of Glenwood City (45-0) won the title at 138 pounds, securing his gold medal with a 7-4 win in sudden victory overtime after his championship at 126 in 2024. Mineral Point’s Kade Rule (51-3) successfully navigated the bracket at 175, culminating with a 9-5 decision in the championship match after winning at 165 last year.

In addition to the champions, there were four other boys’ wrestlers that remained undefeated on the season. Sophomore Camden Rugg of Union Grove (49-0) completed his unbeaten season at 106 in Division 1 with a 15-0 tech. fall, and senior Caleb Cady of Pewaukee (37-0) wrestled to a 5-3 decision to win at 157 in Division 1. In Division 3, junior Blake Underwood of Marathon (50-0) won by a 5-2 in the final bout at 113, and senior Colton Weiler of Auburndale (56-0) was the champion at 150 following a 17-1 tech. fall in the title match.

The girls’ division was also highlighted by returning champions. Senior Taylor Whiting of Lena (17-0) captured her third straight title with a pin 1:13 at the 114-pound weight class after she earned titles at 107 the past two campaigns.

Senior Brooke Corrigan of De Pere (11-0) returned to the top of the medals podium with a 13-9 decision in the final at 100. She finished runner-up last season after winning the crown in 2023. Senior Ava Garner of Marshfield (37-2) moved up a weight class to 107 after gaining possession of the 100 gold medal a year ago. She won the title this year with a 14-0 major decision in the final. At 120 pounds, junior Angie Bianchi of Two Rivers (27-0) moved up a division to earn her second crown, winning a 7-5 decision over last year’s 120 champion in the final. Junior Madi Peach of Milton (41-0) successfully defended her title to repeat as champion at 126 with a 17-2 tech. fall in the championship bout, and Lillie Banks of Menasha (46-1) retained her title at 132 with a 6-3 decision in the final. Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s Brooke Huffman (34-0), a sophomore, repeated as champion at 185 pounds by pinning her opponent in :33 seconds

The list of champions also included two wrestlers that remained undefeated in winning their first championship this season. Sophomore Riley Hanrahan of Black River Falls (28-0) won by a 16-0 tech. fall at 138 in the title bout over a former two-time champion, and Oak Creek’s Isabelle Olesen (23-0), a senior, won the 152 bracket with a 14-0 major decision in the final.

Evansville won the most boys’ individual championships at the tournament with three, followed by Freedom, Iowa-Grant/Highland, Marathon and Mineral Point with two. All 12 of the girls’ crowns were won by different schools.

The 2025 State Individual Wrestling Tournament wasn’t just another weekend of competition—it was a showcase of greatness. The attendance set an unofficial State Indivdual Wrestling Tournament record for attendance at 69,477 spectators for the three-day event, selling out each session.

The boys’ team titles will be determined next week at the State Team Wrestling Tournament at the UW Field House Friday-Saturday, March 7-8.
