Wisconsin Rapids (OnFocus) – On May 14, while operating at a fire, a member of Grand Rapids Fire Department collapsed in cardiac arrest. Dave Engelbright a member of Nekoosa Fire Department, immediately began CPR.
Shortly after, the Nekoosa Ambulance and Wisconsin Rapids ambulance arrived on-scene and the GRFD member was successfully resuscitated and transported to the hospital.
According to doctors, the reason the firefighter is alive today is because of Engelbright’s quick actions and the fact that he was surrounded by so many EMS personnel.
“Early CPR, followed by ALS care and quick response to a cardiac care facility, is what leads to great outcomes,” Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department wrote in a statement.
In recognition of his heroic efforts, Engelbright was awarded the Wisconsin Rapids Citizens Award by Division Chief of EMS Jason Joling, and Grand Rapids Fire Department Fire Chief Robert Piatt also recognized him for his life saving measures.
