MEDFORD, WI (OnFocus) – The fourth annual Medford Basketball Classic will be the biggest tournament yet as 16 teams will vie for the championship.

After inviting 10 teams in its inaugural year in 2018, 12 teams battled it out in 2021. Tournament organizer Matthew Wenzel said the unpredictability of the bracket will make for some entertaining games.

“If we were to create a March Madness type bracket for these teams, I don’t think a thousand people would create a perfect bracket,” Wenzel said. “Any one of these teams have a shot for the 2022 title.”

The tournament will take place on Friday, April 8th, and Saturday, April 9th, at the Medford Area Middle School. Teams will play two pool games to determine where they will be seeded for the playoff pool beginning Saturday afternoon.

Wenzel’s rankings of the teams is as follows:

  1. Julie Kay’s Kitchen (Minocqua)

  2. Strength Sportswear (La Crosse/Medford)

  3. Jake Schalow Northwestern Mutual (Kaukauna/Wausau)

  4. Weather Shield (Medford/Sturgeon Bay/Wausau)

  5. WE Hoops (Wausau)

  6. Loppnow’s Sports Bar (Marathon)

  7. Northside Elevator/Grassland Dairy (Loyal)

  8. BW Express (Kronenwetter/Mosinee)

  9. Combined Carpentry (Medford)
