Milwaukee (OnFocus) – A big player in broadcasting sports to Wisconsin homes is about to see a name change. It likely won’t stop there, though. Fans of the Bucks and Brewers, beware.
Sinclair Broadcasting, which has owned Fox Sports Midwest, including Fox Sports Wisconsin, reached a deal with Casino operator Bally’s Corporation to change the stations’ names. Reports are that the new names will likely include ‘Bally Sports’ in some form.
As reported by the New York post, Bally’s will pay Sinclair $85 million in a 10-year agreement.
How the agreement affects broadcasting of Brewers and Bucks games has yet to be determined.
Bally’s has made it clear they want to become a major operator in the US sports betting and IGaming platforms, and the agreement with Sinclair paves the way for possible interactive wagering. In order for that to happen with Sinclair’s Wisconsin outlets, Wisconsin would have to legalize betting, like fellow midwest states Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa.
