The Fix Is In Returning to Central Wisconsin
Vesper (OnFocus) – A free spay and neuter clinic for outdoor cats will take place July 20 and 21, 2021 through nonprofit The Fix Is In, a low-cost, high volume spay and neuter non-profit with a mobile unit. (Registration must be done in advance online here.)
Along with providing basic vet care, The Fix Is In is equipped to sterilize dozens of cats in just a few hours. This clinic is organized by Pittsville native Carrie Gillaspie, who hosted her first clinic at her Vesper farm in November 2019 after noticing an increase in the number of stray and feral cats in her rural neighborhood.
Since that first clinic, Gillaspie has hosted four more spay/neuter events resulting in more than 500 cats being fixed. Through fundraising and generous donations, Gillaspie is able to offer the clinic free of charge to those who take part.
“We’ve raised money so that the sterilization services are free of charge, but we of course welcome donations, and a lot of the people who come do donate what they can,” Gillaspie explained. “Some people only bring 2 or 3 cats and at the typical charge – $40 per cat – that’s still very affordable, but I also have some people who bring 8 or more cats. Even at the discounted rate the cost can really add up.”
Any donations received go directly towards helping cover surgery costs for future clinics.
“Since starting the clinics, my rural neighbors have seen a significant decline in their cat populations,” said Gillaspie. “Outdoor cats are an important part of these farm ecosystems, but when they become overpopulated it leads to disease and other issues. It’s great to hear that the clinics are helping restore balance here in Central Wisconsin!”
“Spaying and neutering is the single best thing you can do for your feline – or canine – family member,” she added. “The easiest way you can help prevent animal homelessness is to sterilize your own pets.”
The Fix Is In travels to various locations around Central Wisconsin. Visit their website and facebook page to see what their upcoming location schedule is. (Registration for Gillaspie’s clinic must be done in advance online here.)
