G8RSkin PPE Appoints Jay Brunetti, 49ers’ Director of Equipment Operations, to Advisory Board

Protective equipment is demonstrated to substantially reduce concussion risk in contact sports

G8RSkin PPE—a specialized protective equipment designed to substantially reduce concussion risk in contact sports—has appointed Jay Brunetti, the San Francisco 49ers’ director of equipment operations, to its advisory board. Invented by college football player Carter Hogg, G8RSkin is a specialized balaclava-like shell that is worn under football helmets and shoulder pads. Having successfully completed tests at the Helmet Lab of the Virginia Tech Center for Injury Prevention, G8RSkin has been demonstrated to reduce the combined probability of concussion risk in contact sports.

Brunetti is currently in his sixth season with the San Francisco 49ers and has been the director of equipment operations for the past three years. Previously, he spent three seasons as the team’s equipment manager. Before joining the 49ers, Brunetti held the position of director of equipment services for the Houston Texans from 2001 to 2014 and held similar positions at the Washington Commanders for 26 years prior to that. Moreover, he holds the distinction of being a charter member of the Professional Football Equipment Managers Society (PFEMS).

“I am thrilled to be joining the G8RSkin advisory board,” Brunetti said. “This equipment will provide football players at all levels with much-needed protection and will be a tremendous asset in the effort to reduce head injuries. I look forward to working with Carter and the G8RSkin team to further develop this protective equipment, including its expansion into shoulder pads and protective equipment across multiple sports.”

Among the next steps for G8RSkin are upcoming deals with youth, high school, and college athletes to wear the effective equipment during upcoming seasons. Here are some key attributes of G8RSkin:

  • G8RSkin’s patent-pending design is pliable and flexible, but under any sort of violent impact, it redistributes energy and reduces head and neck rotation
  • Can absorb and distribute energy at only 5mm of thickness, so players don’t have to resize their helmets or adjust their equipment
  • Has a high compression set value, so players will get the same amount of protection from the first hit to the last hit because the material does not deform quickly over time
  • This is the only fully integrated head, neck, and shoulder system designed to reduce the risk of concussion
  • The device is designed to be utilized across multiple sports, including but not limited to football, hockey, skiing, and lacrosse
