GILMAN – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic girls basketball team came up just short of Gilman, falling 58-55 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game on Friday night at Gilman High School.
The Pirates (9-7, 6-7 Cloverbelt Conference East Division) led 30-29 at halftime and outscored Columbus Catholic (10-7, 6-6 Cloverbelt East) by two in the second half as the game was tight throughout.
The Dons left a few points out there, however, as they missed nine of their 17 free throw attempts. Gilman didn’t shoot a great percentage at the line either, but made 19 of 32 free throws as Columbus was whistled for 23 fouls and had three players foul out.
Hailey Roehl nailed four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 24 points for the Dons. Addie Baierl added 11 in the loss.
Grace Grunseth scored 23 points and Emma Warner had 18 for Gilman. They combined to make 14 of 19 free throws, while the rest of the Pirates were just 5 of 13.
Columbus Catholic’s next game is Thursday at Greenwood.
