As we head into Week 7 of the WIAA Football Season it is time to take a look at the Football Playoff situation with three weeks left in the season. We will break these down conference by conference starting with the Great Northern Conference.
In
Medford (5-1, 4-0 GNC)
Mosinee (4-1-1, 4-0 GNC)
Out
None
Likely
Lakeland (2-4, 2-2 GNC) Lakeland had a tough start to the season, losing their first four games. But with two straight wins and getting the conference leaders out of the way, Lakeland has a pretty good path to the playoffs, They need to win two of their last three to secure a playoff spot, with games against Ashland, Hayward, and Rhinelander.
Merrill (3-3, 2-2 GNC) Merrill has a path to the playoffs, but they need to do it before Week 9. Merrill has two winnable games coming up against Hayward and Rhinelander before taking on Mosinee in their final game. One win would make Merrill playoff eligible.
Work to do
Ashland (1-5, 1-3 GNC) Ashland is not in an envious spot, but not as bad as a few below, they need to win out to make the playoffs, and the key game comes this week in Minocqua when they take on Lakeland. They wrap the season up with games against Antigo and Hayward.
Hayward (1-5, 1-3 GNC) Hayward is in the same boat as the Oredockers. They need to win out to secure a playoff spot and there is a big test this week when they travel to Merrill. A must-win game if the Hurricanes will make the playoffs.
Unlikely
Antigo (2-4, 1-3 GNC) Antigo has a tough path to the playoffs, they need to win out but they are going to need two huge upsets to secure a playoff spot with games against both Medford and Mosinee yet to come.
Rhinelander (2-4, 1-3 GNC) Rhinelander needs an upset in Medford this week to have any real shot, if they can get that win they do have a path to the playoffs but they need to win out to secure a spot.
