MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – If you checked the skies above Marshfield early Monday afternoon, you may have seen something abnormal in the air. The Goodyear Blimp made its way over Marshfield on Monday and is one of only 25 blimps in the world.
The blimp was on its way to EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin for an airshow that lasts throughout the week.
The blimp is labeled the Wingfoot Three and was commissioned in 2018. The blimp was manufactured by Germany’s ZLT Zeppelin Luftschifftechnik and assembled by a team of Zeppelin and Goodyear engineers.
The blimp has been traveling to AirVenture since the early 1970s. Goodyear’s aircraft can be usually seen hovering above sporting events such as PGA, NASCAR and NFL events.
AirVenture will be lasting all week and will pull in aviators and spectators from across the 50 states. The airshow is located at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh and will run through August 1. For tickets and information, visit https://www.eaa.org/airventure.
