Green Bay Packers named fifth most popular NFL team in the world

  • Green Bay Packers receive over 284,000 online searches every month around the world, the fifth most in the NFL

  • Chicago Bears rank much lower in 12th with 166,000 monthly searches

  • Dallas Cowboys have the highest number of online searches worldwide with over 440,000 every month

A new study has revealed the most popular NFL teams in the world, and the Green Bay Packers have been named the fifth most searched-for NFL team.

The research from FlashPicks, a betting picks, parlays, predictions and news brand, aims to find the NFL teams that have the most support from fans across the globe.

To do so, they analyzed Google search volume data over the past four years in more than 100 of the most populated countries in the world. The NFL teams were then scored out of 5, based on the total average monthly searches for each side in every country combined.

The study revealed that the Green Bay Packers are the fifth most popular NFL team on the planet, as they receive on average 284,190 searches worldwide each month. Some of the search terms taken into account include ‘Green Bay Packers’, ‘Green Bay Packers game’, and ‘Packers jersey’.

Burkina Faso was found to be the country that supports the Packers the most as residents there search for the Green Bay Packers more than any other team in the NFL. All in all this gives the Wisconsin based side a respectable score of 3.2 out of 5.

In comparison, division rivals the Chicago Bears rank much lower in 12th, with a score of 1.9 out of 5. The Bears receive 166,340 online searches on average every month, over 110,000 less than the Packers.

The Bears also have one country that has searched for them more than any other NFL team, which was Cyprus.

According to the study, the Dallas Cowboys have the highest search volume around the world, with a whopping 440,410 average searches each month. This makes them the most popular NFL team in the world and gives the Cowboys a perfect score of 5 out of 5.

The Cowboys are the most searched-for NFL team in a whopping 30 different countries, including China, India, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia, and also have the highest number of searches in the USA.

Slightly behind in second is the Kansas City Chiefs. The reigning back-to-back Super Bowl champions have 433,490 online searches every month, resulting in a score of 4.9 out of 5. A hefty 26 different countries search for the Chiefs the most, including every country in South America all showing a keen interest in Patrick Mahomes’ side.

In third is the Buffalo Bills, which received an average monthly search volume of 427,830 from countries outside of the USA, which gave them a score of 4.9 out of 5. The Bills were the most searched-for NFL team in 31 different countries, including the majority of Western Europe such as France, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain.

The Miami Dolphins make fourth with a score of 3.3 out of 5. Fans around the globe search for the Dolphins 293,540 times on average per month, and four countries search for them more than any other team. The Miami Dolphins are the first NFL side to play a home game in London so it will come as no surprise that the United Kingdom searches for the Dolphins more than any other side, along with Haiti, Nicaragua, and the Bahamas.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers take sixth place, which has an average monthly search volume of 248,330. The Bucs received a score of 2.8 out of 5 and tops the searches in two countries – the Philippines and Singapore.

In seventh is the New England Patriots which receives 239,750 searches every month, followed by the Philadelphia Eagles (211,400), the Detroit Lions (199,720), and the San Francisco 49ers (170,660).

Commenting on the research, Callum Broxton, Head of Operations at FlashPicks said: “The popularity of the NFL continues to grow around the world, with games being played in a range of new countries over the past decade. This year we will see the Green Bay Packers travel to Brazil for a regular season game as they aim to increase their following worldwide.

“Our study shows that the Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys, and Kansas City Chiefs are leading the way when it comes to attracting fans worldwide, and how other teams in the league must build their international brand to attract fans in countries across different continents or risk losing out.”
