Greenwood (OnFocus) – It’s been a long wait for football fans and football teams to start the 2020 season. The wait is finally over, and the season is now here.
We take a look at the Greenwood Indians with our Season Preview. We reached out to Coach Chris Schmitz for some thoughts on this football season, giving us a glimpse into how the Indians are getting ready for this year, as they move to 8-man football.
OnFocus: How has your coaching staff and team prepared for this season?
Schmitz: We are following the guidelines that are in place and doing the things we need to to keep our kids healthy and safe. The kids all understand to wear masks if they want to play football and they do. That’s their biggest concern right now. We know that the season can change any day. Will let the kids know that at any point in time the schedule can change and we have to be ready for that.
OnFocus: What are some positives that have come out of practice and the season being delayed?
Schmitz: We have stayed healthy, and have a group of kids that are excited about finally getting to play football. They’re back in school, back with their friends and getting something kind of normal. Even though our practices in school are not totally normal it’s something they get to look forward to.
OnFocus: Season forecast – What should fans expect to see out of your team this year?
Schmitz: The big thing for us is a switch to eight man. That’s new for the team in the community. I think with the way that eight minutes it up there should be more excitement for people as these games tend to be higher scoring games.
