GREENWOOD, WI (OnFocus) – The Greenwood Police Department, in coordination with the Clark County Sheriff’s Department, has completed an investigation into an incident that occurred at Greenwood Elementary School on February 13, 2025. Initial reports suggested a student may have had an explosive device in their backpack, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
Following a thorough investigation, which included interviews with multiple witnesses directly involved in the incident, authorities have determined that no physical threat was made against any student or the school.
The investigation revealed that several weeks prior to the incident, a student had made comments to peers about having a toy in their backpack and jokingly referred to it as a bomb. The student later recanted these statements, clarifying that it was not true. However, no students reported these remarks to school staff in the weeks leading up to the incident. Law enforcement concluded that the student had no intent to threaten or harm anyone and is not considered a risk to the school or community.
Chief of Police Andrew C. Kohnert emphasized that while such incidents can be distressing, the response from law enforcement was consistent with standard procedures for situations of this nature.
“The Greenwood Police Department would like to extend our gratitude to our law enforcement partners, as well as the students, staff, and community members of the School District of Greenwood for their cooperation and understanding throughout this investigation,” Chief Kohnert stated. “As always, the safety and security of our community remain our top priority.”
Authorities encourage students and community members to report any concerns regarding school safety to appropriate personnel to ensure prompt and effective responses in the future.
