Submitted to OnFocus – The Hannah Center, a Marshfield-based nonprofit organization that assists women in crisis, is going virtual for its annual event and auction on Thursday, October 15 @ 6 pm CST. The event, Giving for Life, will be simulcast on The Hannah Center’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. The auction starts Monday, October 12 @ 8 am and ends Thursday, October 15 @ 9 pm CST.

The theme for this year’s event is Gaining Independence. The event will highlight the story of successful graduate Brandi and her three children on their path to independence with the help of The Hannah Center. Brody, age 9, the eldest of Brandi’s three children, will co-host the event along with City Administrator, Steve Barg.

Due to her popularity at the 2019 event, award-winning author Annie Meehan will be back to provide the keynote address. Growing up as a middle child of seven children raised by a single mom, Annie Meehan learned tenacity and resilience at a tender age. The word “survival” took on many meanings in her younger years, developing within her a richly profound, fiery spunkiness. Attendees of last year’s in-person banquet were so impressed with Annie they requested she come back.

The funds raised at this year’s virtual event are vitally important. The Hannah Center has seen an increase in need for their services since the outbreak of Covid-19.

“There’s been a 119% increase in substance abuse relapse in Wood County since the stay-at-home order was issued. We’ve received a growing number of phone calls from women who are on the verge of being evicted from their homes due to job loss.”, says Tricia Fancher, Program Coordinator at The Hannah Center.

Hannah Center is asking anyone that supports their mission to wear yellow on October 15 and share pictures of themselves in yellow on social media with the hashtag HannahCenterGFL20.

Online auction: Starts Monday, October 12 @ 8 am CST and ends Thursday, October 15 @ 9 pm CST

Virtual Event: Simulcast on The Hannah Center’s Facebook page and their YouTube channel on Thursday, October 15 @ 6 pm CST.
