CLARK COUNTY, WI (OnFocus) – The Clark County Emergency Management has issued a Heat Advisory for Clark and Taylor Counties, effective from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM CDT on Monday, August 26, 2024. This advisory comes in response to anticipated heat index values reaching between 100 and 105 degrees Fahrenheit.
Impact and Precautions
Residents are urged to take the necessary precautions to protect themselves and others from the effects of the extreme heat. The combination of high temperatures and elevated humidity levels may lead to heat-related illnesses, such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Safety Recommendations:
- Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day, even if you do not feel thirsty.
- Keep Cool: Remain in air-conditioned environments whenever possible. If you do not have access to air conditioning, consider visiting public places like shopping malls or community centers that are air-conditioned.
- Avoid Direct Sunlight: Stay out of the sun during peak hours. If you must be outside, seek shade, and wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.
- Check on Vulnerable Individuals: Ensure that relatives, neighbors, and especially those who are elderly, young children, or have preexisting health conditions are staying cool and hydrated.
- Limit Strenuous Activities: Try to avoid physically demanding tasks during the heat of the day. If you need to work outdoors, schedule activities for early morning or late evening.
- Recognize Symptoms of Heat-Related Illness: Be aware of the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. If symptoms occur, take immediate action by moving to a cooler location, hydrating, and seeking medical attention if necessary.
