Suspect with a history of eluding officers faces a slew of charges after crashing into a residence
Wisconsin Rapids (OnFocus) On the morning of January 6th, 2024, the Wisconsin Rapids Police found themselves in a high-stakes pursuit following a report of a motorist brandishing a firearm at another driver. The incident unfolded at approximately 7:58 am, prompting a rapid response from law enforcement.
The suspect in question, identified as Dane A. Bieniek, a 29-year-old individual currently on parole for a previous felony charge of Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer, proved to be a significant challenge for the officers involved.
Upon receiving the initial report, officers swiftly located Bieniek’s vehicle and attempted to execute a traffic stop. Instead of complying, the suspect opted to flee, setting off a dangerous pursuit through the Wisconsin Rapids area. Despite the inherent risks of high-speed chases, officers maintained pursuit, determined to apprehend the armed motorist.
The pursuit occurred when the suspect vehicle was disabled, resulting in a crash into a residential property. The impact prompted Bieniek to exit the vehicle and make a desperate attempt to escape on foot. However, the determined officers quickly closed in, leading to a brief but intense foot pursuit.
Ultimately, law enforcement successfully detained Bieniek, ensuring the safety of the community. A subsequent search yielded the recovery of a firearm, heightening the gravity of the situation. It was revealed that Bieniek, already on parole for a felony related to eluding officers, now faces an array of serious charges.
Dane A. Bieniek was booked into the Wood County Jail with the following charges:
- First-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety-Repeater
- Second-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety-Repeater
- Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer-Repeater
- Possess Firearm-Convicted of a Felony
- Resisting an Officer
- Operating While Revoked
- Failure to Install Ignition Interlock Device
