Hit and Run Causes Injury in Town of Saratoga

TOWN OF SARATOGA, WI (OnFocus) – On Friday, February 2, 2024 at approximately 5:50 p.m., Wood County Sheriff’s Department Deputies were dispatched to a hit and run crash on Ranger Rd in the township of Saratoga.

The initial investigation indicated an eastbound vehicle on Ranger Road struck an unoccupied truck that was being loaded onto a trailer by several individuals. The impact caused the truck and trailer to strike the three individuals who were attempting to load the unoccupied vehicle. The three individuals sustained minor injuries.

Through the investigation, the striking vehicle was identified as a 2006-2010, Hyundai Elantra. Because of the damage to the striking vehicle, Wood County Deputies conducted a neighborhood canvas and provided enhanced patrols in the area. During the investigation, an anonymous tip came in regarding the striking vehicle and a possible driver. Wood County Deputies were able to locate the striking vehicle as well as identify the driver who admitted to hitting the vehicle and leaving the scene.

The driver was identified as Wayne L. Wrigley, 70, of Wisconsin Rapids. Citations were issued to Wayne for Inattentive Driving and Failure to Notify Police of Accident. Additionally, a charge of Hit and Run – Causing Injury will be referred to the Wood County District Attorney’s Office. The Wood County Sheriff’s Department would like to thank the community for the information provided anonymously as it was crucial in identifying the individual responsible.
