Honest Brand Reviews: Mission Technology Excels

To paraphrase Outkast, the only thing cooler than cool is being ice cold. That’s easier said than done in the summer when temperatures climb and there’s little-to-no shade to help. Thankfully, Mission’s cooling hats are designed to cool you off no matter where you are.

Using a unique blend of fabrics and technology, Mission can help you regulate your body temperature and comfort level by wicking away the sweat from your body. Their hats, towels, neck gaiters, and more are designed for folks who need to move their bodies but don’t need all the excess heat.

And I’ll tell you all about what they offer in my Mission review. Keep reading to find out about their integral materials, key features, what customers think about them, and more. But first, let’s talk about Mission’s highlights.

Highlights

  • Effective Cooling Technology: Mission utilizes advanced technologies like Hydroactive and Vaporactive to cool down the body rapidly. This can be particularly useful in hot environments where finding shade may be challenging.
  • Odor-Resistant and Machine-Washable: Mission’s activewear is odor-resistant, allowing for longer periods of wear between washes. Additionally, their products are machine-washable, making maintenance easy and convenient.
  • Chemical-Free: All of Mission’s cooling benefits are achieved without the use of chemicals, making them safe for all skin types.
  • Sun Protection: Mission’s products can provide wearers with up to 50 SPF sun protection, offering an additional layer of defense against harmful UV rays.

Materials

Mission Review

Mission features two types of materials: Hydroactive and Vaporactive. Each has their own intended uses. The former, Hydroactive, is advertised as “advanced wet-to-cool technology,” and it can cool your body down in environments where you can’t find shade. It can rapidly decrease your body temperature by as much as 30 degrees Fahrenheit in under a minute.

To activate the cooling properties, all you need to do is succinctly wet the product, whether that’s a hat or a towel. You’ll then wring out all the extra water. The water is needed to begin the cooling process, but you don’t need an excess amount. From there, give the towel a quick snap or a wave and feel it start to cool down.

Hydroactive works by using evaporation to their advantage. They allow the body to more readily evaporate sweat, thus cooling you down more quickly than if you were to remain in the heat.

The other material Mission features, Vaporactive, can also cool you down, but with a different technology. It’s branded as “advanced heat-release technology,” and its goal is to soak up your sweat so you can cool off more quickly. The materials release excess heat instead of trapping it.

The key difference between the two materials is which products they’re usually in. Hydroactive is normally found in the brand’s towels or hats, i.e., items you can easily drape over your body. Vaporactive, on the other hand, is used in their socks and compression shorts since those areas don’t receive much airflow.

Features

Mission Review

Mission’s products are more than meets the eye, which is always saying something, considering how they turned boonie hats into a piece I’d consider buying. They have multiple features and properties that are key when you’re trying to stay cool in the summer. Here are just a few:

  • Odor-resistant: One of the key advantages of odor-resistant activewear is that it typically allows for longer periods of wear between washes compared to regular sportswear. This is especially useful for activities where access to laundry facilities may be limited, such as camping or extended travel.
  • Machine-washable: Mission’s clothes and apparel can go into your washing machine. They’re not so delicate that you need to care for them by hand–you can toss them in with the rest of your laundry.
  • Chemical-free: All the cooling benefits offered by Mission’s clothes come without the use of chemicals, meaning they’re safe for all skin types.
  • Sun Protection: Mission’s products can provide wearers with up to 50SPF sun protection.
  • Mesh Venting: Mesh venting is designed to improve the breathability of a garment. By incorporating mesh panels, the fabric allows air to flow more freely, which helps to regulate body temperature and reduce the buildup of heat and moisture.
  • Moisture Wicking: Moisture-wicking clothing can efficiently draw sweat away from the skin and onto the surface of the fabric, where it can evaporate. This helps to keep the wearer feeling dry and comfortable during physical activity.
  • Instant Cooling: Mission’s materials can rapidly cool you off, even when you’re out on the field in the middle of a summer day. The brand claims their products can drop body temperature by up to 30 degrees Fahrenheit in a minute.
  • Coverage for Up to 2 Hours: The Hydroactive material can reduce your overall body temperature and keep it at a more comfortable level for up to 2 hours.

5 Best Selling Mission Products

Mission Review

Although Mission’s catalog is decently varied, with options in different colors, prints, sizes, and formats, I’m only going to talk about their best-selling products here. They best represent what the brand has in store for customers. So, without further ado, let’s get into it.

Mission Cooling 12-in-1 Neck Gaiter Review

The first item in my Mission review is this versatile cooling garment. As the name implies, you can fashion this gaiter in a dozen configurations, whether it’s in the form of a facemask, a headband, or an ascot, and those options just scratch the surface.

The Mission Cooling 12-in-1 Neck Gaiter is made from a combination of 92% polyester and 8% spandex, meaning it is both lightweight and flexible. It boasts Mission’s Hydroactive technology so that it can cool you down in a pinch. It can maintain that cooler temperature for up to 2 hours.

Available in colors like blue, black, charcoal, and khaki, you can pick up the Mission Cooling 12-in-1 Neck Gaiter for $15.

Customers say: “Great item. Have all colors; black, blue, tan, and gray. Wet, ring, and snap. Love the cool feeling wearing around the neck keep temperature down. Very handy working 24hr. FIRE EMS shifts.

Mission All-Season Adjustable Sport Mask Review

Although mask mandates have by and large been extinguished, there are still some times and places where it’s better to wear a mask. The Mission All-Season Adjustable Sport Mask puts all other masks to shame as it’s machine-washable, breathable without being permeable to bacteria or viruses, and comfortable.

This mask uses Mission’s Vaporactive technology to disperse heat and moisture that builds up beneath its surface. Do you remember how sweaty your face felt under a mask a few years ago? Well, that shouldn’t happen with this mask as it moves the heat outwards and away from you.

You can also adjust the mask to fit your face. The backstrap uses an intuitive tightening system, so you don’t have to strangle your nose or dangle the mask too far from your face.

The Mission All-Season Adjustable Sport Mask is available for $20.

Customers say: “Very lightweight and convenient. Super design. Great for indoor or outdoor use.

Mission Cooling Bucket Hat Review

While the last two products in my Mission review were useful, they were a bit lacking in the style department. That’s where the Mission Cooling Bucket Hat comes in. It fits perfectly into lazy summer outfits on days when you listen to Mac DeMarco on your back porch with some buds.

Not only that, but this bucket hat has plenty going on under its brim. Along the rim are cooling panels. Just beneath them is a cooling headband that can reduce the sweat and moisture build-up that usually comes from hot and arid weather. The 3” brim can deflect most of the sunlight away from your face, but you can pin the brim up if you want to alter the hat’s appearance.

You can keep the hat simple with a white, black, or gray colorway, or you can experiment a bit more by purchasing one of the more vibrant patterns like big island or matrix camo silver. Regardless of which pattern you choose, you’re looking at a $20 price tag.

Customers say: “Fantastic hat with über cooling properties. This is the third one we have bought! Such a great product for long days at youth sporting events.

Mission Cooling Performance Hat Review

I mean, the Mission Cooling Performance Hat is just obvious, isn’t it? Who wouldn’t want a simple baseball cap, unassuming in its looks, that can also cool you down? This hat can go with nearly every outfit, but you can also pick it up in other fun colors to diversify your selection. Plus, this cap can protect your head and face with sun protection up to SPF50.

This humble, versatile, and always-useful hat only costs $20.

Customers say: “Brought this hat for my Daughter who is working at a Day Camp this summer. She is outside in the heat all day! Very nice material and feel. Cooling feature is the BEST!! She puts the headband on and then the hat. She said it definitely makes a difference and she is cooler!

Mission Cooling Boonie Hat Review

Finally, let’s look at the Mission Cooling Boonie Hat, which is a more hardcore iteration of the previous hats in my Mission review. The fit is more conducive to intense outdoor activities that require you to stay outside for long periods of time like gardening (which can be quite rigorous if you’re doing it right) or construction work. The brim is wide enough to cover your face and neck.

To ensure this cap stays on your head, there’s an adjustable chin strap and a rear strap. These keep the pressure of the cooling pads as close to you as possible, meaning your head should cool throughout the day.

Available in white, black, charcoal, and navy, the Mission Cooling Boonie Hat can be yours for $25.

Customers say: “This is the second Bonnie Hat I’ve purchased from Mission. I love them. I use them every time I go on my walks and hikes. They hold up really well and provides plenty of shade and comfort on hot Arizona days.

Who Is Mission For?

Mission Review

Mission’s hats, towels, and other products are best suited for people who are either going to spend a ton of time outside in the summer or who can cool down quickly enough if they’re at the gym or exercising.

Mission Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Mission Review

Let’s gather together some Mission reviews from customers to find out how these hats work in the field. In the following list, you’ll read some review scores, that are up-to-date as of September 2023, taken from Mission’s website.

  • Mission All-Season Adjustable Sport Mask: 4.9/5 stars based on more than 860 pieces of customer feedback
  • Mission Cooling Bucket Hat: 4.9/5 stars based on more than 640 pieces of customer feedback
  • Mission Cooling 12-in-1 Neck Gaiter: 4.9/5 stars based on more than 370 pieces of customer feedback

The shared aggregate scores on the products lead me to believe that Mission pools many of their reviews into one spot, but that doesn’t matter too much as nearly all the Mission reviews I read on their site were positive. Simply put, these products worked, and customers felt cool in the hats.

Luckily, it was easy to Mission reviews on other sites like Home Depot, Walmart, and Amazon, and the praise from customers continued. They did their job as advertised–helping users reduce their body heat even in scorching temperatures.

Here’s how one customer described their experience with a Mission cooling hat on Home Depot. “I had bought one of thes hats somewhere else to wear at the theme park. It’s a nice hat. It is thinner than a typical hat, which is great for the heat. It is still protective. I wet it, gently wrung it out and put it back on. It was great for keeping cool.

The point they’re getting at is that the hats were easy to use. That point was echoed in reviews for Mission towels and gaiters, though one shopper on Amazon provided some interesting insight as to how the products worked in certain conditions.

They tend to provide relief if you are hot from exercising in 70-80 degree weather and seem to work the best indoors where there is no humidity and cool air blowing like in the gym. I also use my towels when at work I spend a lot of time in and out and they offer me the ability to quickly cool off inside where I keep the air at about 70 degrees. They also seem more effective on windy days,” they wrote.

So it seems that some customers found the hats less than effective when they were outside. However, this wasn’t always the case. Numerous customers said they relied on Mission hats when they worked outside, sent their kids off to camp, or went hiking.

The best takeaway, then, is that Mission’s hats worked for most people, but not everyone. If I had to summarize the average Mission review from a user, I’d just quote this one from Walmart’s website about the Mission Cooling Bucket Hat:

Great hat for staying cool and beating the sun! Hat is very comfortable and cooling. Good sun coverage and I like the chin bungee for when the wind comes up during my walks and kayaking.

Is Mission Legit?

Mission Review

Based on the high number of customer reviews that stated Mission’s products worked for them, I have solid reason to believe that Mission are, in fact, legit.

Is Mission Worth It?

Mission Review

It’s hard to stay cool in the summer if you’re outside, working out, or just moving your body regularly. Rather than shoving ice packs into your pockets, Mission’s cooling hats are a much more sustainable method to regulate your body temperature. Plus, they’re not much more expensive than other hats or towels, so there’s no reason not to pick one up if you struggle with overheating.

Where To Buy Mission

Mission Review

It’s rather easy to find Mission’s products, if you know where to look. Besides on the brand’s website, www.mission.com, you can also find them at Walmart, Home Depot, and Amazon.
