Hosting Guests This Christmas? Here’s How to Make Your Bathroom Shine

If you’re expecting guests, a well-prepared bathroom goes a long way. One home decour expert looks at ways you can make sure your guests feel welcome and well-catered.
Many of us are looking forward to welcoming guests, especially as the holiday season approaches and we’re set to reconnect with many of the loved ones in our lives, including those we haven’t seen in a while. Whenever you welcome a guest, you want them to feel as comfortable as possible in the home, and a welcoming and comfortable bathroom space is an important part of this.
However, it’s easy for hosts to overlook small details in the bathroom that, when inspected, might bring some discomfort or cause an awkward moment for your guests. According to a survey by Luxury Flooring, bathroom problems are some of the most bothersome for guests. 42% of guests rate a dirty toilet as their biggest pet peeve, while it’s a dirty bathroom in general for 33$, bad smells for 31%, and dirty or used towels in the bathroom for 22%.
“Comfort and cleanliness in the bathroom is vital for guests,” says Liam Cope a home decour expert from View Homes. “What many don’t know is that our standards for other bathrooms tend to be higher. What we might be willing to overlook in our spaces, we become much more sensitive to when we’re outside of the home.”
In order to better help hosts ensure that their guests feel welcome, Liam, has put together a list of actionable tips on how you can create guest-friendly bathroom spaces, from essential items to etiquette tips.
“There is a real psychological impact in taking the time to help guests feel welcomed,” says Liam. “Even small personal touches like offering a scented soap or providing spare toiletries help guests feel catered for. What’s more, it reduces the pressure on them to bring up any topics they might not feel comfortable discussing. You would be surprised how much it can weigh on some guests’ minds if they have to ask for basics like more toilet roll.”
Tips On Helping Guests Feel Welcome In Your Bathroom
Clean before they arrive: Don’t just assume the bathroom is clean, make sure it’s the case by giving it a once over. Work your way from the top of the room to the bottom to make sure you don’t miss anything.
Ensure you stock up on the hygiene basics: Provide as many of the essentials they’re likely to need, including toilet paper, hand soap, fresh and clean towels, dental supplies, and perhaps even discreetly stock some feminine hygiene products.
Add some thoughtful extras: Little touches like scented candles, a hand lotion station, and even a spare bathroom and new slippers can make a big impact for guests staying over.
Make it smell Christmassy: Light a scented candle to help people feel the Christmas cheer even in your bathroom
Be mindful of their needs: Provide a little card assuring them that they’re welcome to use everything in the bathroom and that they can let you know if there’s anything missing they might need.
