On March 7th, 2021 at about 1:55 PM, Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputies took Gary Hughes into custody outside of W15131 Taylor Road, Town of Springfield, Jackson County Wisconsin. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was advised by citizens that Hughes was seen at this address, and due to the fast actions of the citizens on scene and their continuous communication with law enforcement, Hughes was able to be taken into custody without further incident.
Hughes had a felony Probation warrant on March 4, 2021, and when a Jackson County Deputy attempted to take Hughes into custody, Hughes fired a firearm at the deputy. The search for Hughes extended into the weekend, consisting of a lengthy standoff as well as an aerial and foot search of the area.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office would again like to thank all of the agencies that assisted with this incident over the past several days.
We would also like to thank the citizens of Jackson County for their patience, vigilance, and assistance in the apprehension of Hughes.
