MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is back in Marshfield and ready to make a lasting impact on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Wenzel Family Plaza, 201 South Chestnut Avenue, Marshfield, WI 54449. With the current number of Americans affected by Alzheimer’s reaching more than 5 million and projected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050, this event is a critical step in raising awareness and funds to combat the devastating impact of this disease.
The 2-mile route offers a meaningful journey to show solidarity with those battling Alzheimer’s and their families. All funds raised through the Walk to End Alzheimer’s will go directly to furthering the care, support, and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. Your generous contributions are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
To join the walk, participants must register online and sign a standard waiver. While there is no registration fee, every participant is encouraged to make a personal donation and commit to raising funds in the fight against Alzheimer’s. Children are welcome to participate and should also be registered with the consent of their parents/guardians.
Registered participants who achieve the fundraising minimum of $100 will receive an official Walk to End Alzheimer’s T-shirt via USPS. To ensure you receive your shirt in time for Walk day, it is recommended to raise the T-shirt minimum at least four weeks before the event. Offline donations can also be made by submitting a check or money order via mail or in-person to the local Alzheimer’s Association office. Donations generally take one to two weeks to appear on the participant’s fundraising web page.
The Walk is a family-friendly event where strollers are allowed, and well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome, depending on the Walk location rules. However, for everyone’s safety, skateboards, bicycles, inline skates, and wheelie footwear are discouraged.
The event will proceed rain or shine, but in the case of severe weather, updates will be provided on the Walk homepage before the morning of the event.
Volunteers are crucial to the success of the Walk, and the Alzheimer’s Association welcomes anyone interested in helping with set-up, clean-up, registration, water stops, the Promise Garden, and more. For more information about event day roles and responsibilities, interested volunteers can visit the volunteer page.
The Promise Garden is a symbolic display of flowers that represent various connections to Alzheimer’s. Each registered participant will receive a Promise Garden flower and is encouraged to choose a color that best represents their connection:
- Blue: Someone living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia
- Purple: Those who have lost someone to the disease
- Yellow: Those currently supporting or caring for a person living with Alzheimer’s
- Orange: Those who support the cause and the Association’s vision of a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia
