Kaukauna, Luxemburg-Casco, Fennimore Win State Team Wrestling Titles

MADISON, Wis. – Champions in three divisions were determined at the State Team Wrestling Tournament Saturday afternoon at the UW Field House.

Top-seeded Kaukauna (14-0) broke a 26-26 tie by winning the final three weight classes of the bout to post a 41-26 victory over Marshfield in the Division 1 championship match. Last year’s Division 2 runner-up and top seed Luxemburg-Casco (20-0) capped an undefeated season this season with a 37-20 win over Prairie du Chien in the title match. The Spartans erased an 11-0 deficit after the first two weights of the match with five straight wins to take a 22-18 lead that they never relinquished. Jake Jandrin and Michael Bostwick both posted pins to lead the Spartans.

The Blackhawks won four bouts in the match, including falls by Rhett Koening at 138 and Jack Simmons at 285 as well as a technical fall by Blake Thiry at 220.

Luxemburg-Casco won its 13th State championship, which ranks second-most of any program in team tournament history. The Spartans have now participated in 19 State tournaments. Prairie du Chien finishes runner-up in its fourth trip to the State.

Fennimore (17-0), the #1 seed in the bracket, successfully defended the Division 3 title it won last year with 43-18 win over Shiocton in the championship final.

With the score knotted at 6-6 through the first three weights of the match, the Golden Eagles won four straight bouts to take control of the match at 29-6. They recorded six pins en route to the victory, including Brett Birchman at 113, Amryn Nutter at 120, Brecken Muench  at 126, Tristan Steldt at 160 and Cameron Wolf at 195. In addition Ian Crapp chipped in with a technical fall at 132.

The Chiefs won five bouts in the match, all decisions, to account for their team scoring.
