Mosinee vs. Marathon  Won: 61-58

What a great night for basketball.  Two strong basketball teams playing on a cold Monday night for a great showdown in the Guarding Against Cancer game along with Mosinee getting another 1000-point scorer.  Mosinee and the #2 ranked Marathon Red Raiders would trade buckets, but Marathon would be in the lead for most of the first half.  They led at the half 33-27.  Mosinee would be led in scoring by Keagen Jirschele with 11 points, Treve Stoffel with 4 points, Cole Kowalski with 4 points, Aidan Shaughnessy with 3 points, David Haskin with 3 points, and Landen Thomer with 2 points.

Mosinee would come out of the half a little slow, but they would eventually get on a good run.  Mosinee eventually chipped away at Marathon’s lead and they would be led by Mosinee’s newest 1000-point scorer Keagen Jirschele.  He would reach the milestone with about 14 minutes left in the second half.   The boys would respond with some great defense and crucial buckets with time running out.  Mosinee would go up by one with 40 seconds left in the game.  Marathon would come back down and run a nice pick and roll with their Division 2 scholarship athlete Grant Warren and they would go up 1.  Mosinee would get an opportunity at the line to tie or take the lead after a foul on a layup attempt.  Mosinee would miss those free throws, but on the subsequent possession, Keagen Jirshcele would get a steal and a layup to put Mosinee up 1.  After a timeout, Mosinee would pressure the ball and get another steal and a foul where Jirschele would hit both free throws to put Mosinee up 3 with 1.1 seconds left in the game.  Marathon would get a great look, but Mosinee would end up with a late steal to seal the game.  Mosinee would be led by our newest 1000-point scorer, Keagen Jirschele with 26 points, 8 steals, 4 assists, and 2 rebounds while hitting two 3’s.  Landen Thomer with 10 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block.  Treve Stoffel with 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.  Aidan Shaughnessy with 6 points and 1 rebound while hitting two 3’s.  Cole Kowalski with 5 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal, and 1 block while hitting one 3.  David Haskin with 3 points with a 3-pointer.  Garrett Shupe with 2 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks.  Mosinee would increase their record to 12-1 and 5-0 in conference.  While #2 ranked Marathon would go to 12-1 as well.
