A late touchdown and interception secured the Pewaukee Pirates their first state championship with a 15-6 win over the Rice Lake Warriors.
Carson Hanson of Pewaukee led off the game with a 1 yard TD run to cap a 12 play 78-yard drive. The Pirates would convert the two-point conversion giving Pewaukee an 8-0 lead.
Rice Lake would respond in the second after a Pewaukee fumble deep in their own territory with a Cole Fenske 4 yard touchdown run, Rice Lake would miss on the two-point conversion, cutting the lead to 8-6.
That score would hold until 1:40 left in the game when Hanson would run one in from 26 yards out, they would kick the extra point giving them a 15-6 lead.
Rice Lake’s next drive Fenske would try and force a pass in and it was picked off by Nathan Schroeder to seal the Pewaukee win.
It was an ugly game that saw five turnovers, four fumbles, and the interception, as neither team could get the ball into the end zone for a large stretch of the game.
Easton Stone of Rice Lake would lead all rushers with 100 yards on 21 carries, Hanson for Pewaukee would run 20 times for 98 yards along with going 5-9 for 69 yards passing.
