MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – At approximately 4:30 PM today, the Marshfield Fire & Rescue Department responded to a reported loud bang and the smell of gas at 424 North Anton Ave. Upon arrival, there were no visible signs of smoke or fire emanating from the residence, but a strong odor of natural gas was detected in the vicinity.

After conducting a thorough investigation, the damage to both the exterior and interior of the home was determined to be consistent with a lightning strike. This strike also resulted in the rupture of an exterior natural gas line in front of the residence.

Representatives from WE Energies were promptly dispatched to the scene and are currently working on repairing the damaged gas line. There is no danger to the public, but residents are advised to avoid the area until repairs are complete.

The Marshfield Fire & Rescue Department will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
