MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – Local Cub Scouts are inviting anyone interested to consider joining their ranks in 2023.

“We would love to have a pack of 20+ kids involved,” said Angie Standifur, Cub Master of local Cub Scout Pack 384. She has been involved with Scouts for nine years, starting when her son first joined.

Currently there are 12 scouts in the pack, a mixture of boys and girls. Numbers have declined for a variety of reasons, including new school board rules restricting what information can be given to students and other student commitments like sports.

“Scouting is not trying to compete with sports, because a scout can be in sports and Scouts & it can work,” said Standifur, adding that the balance is worth it.

“In Pack 384, each month we meet as an entire pack and have what’s called a pack meeting. Usually some sort of event is happening like racing Pinewood Derby cars, racing boats down a rain gutter, to name a few,” she said. “We also go to summer camp and winter camp which is located up in Rhinelander. Scouting builds confidence in our youth, helps them make new friendships.”

She added that scouting instill values, fosters respectful relationships, and fuels personal achievement, self-reliance, and self confidence.

“They learn life skills, become more confident & have fun,” she said.

A child can join Cub Scouts when they are kindergarten (age 6) all the way through 5th grade
or age 10. Boy Scouts is from 6th grade or age 11 to senior or age 18.

Pack 384 is sponsored by Faith Lutheran Church in Marshfield and welcomes anyone – boy or girl – that wants to join.

The Pack can be found online, or Standifur can be reached at [email protected] or 715-574-6441.
