The Lomira Lions staved off a late comeback and won their first state title in school history with a 26-19 win over Grantsburg.
Grantsburg scored first on a Ian Burkman 1 yard touchdown run, Alex McCormick hit the extra point to go up 7-0.
Lomira would score the next three after a 33-yard run by Taylor Schaumberg, a 32-yard run by Schaumberg, and a 4-yard pass from Jackson Goebel to Sam Schraufnagel. to take a 20-7 lead in the 3rd quarter.
Grantsburg would get back on the board with a 31-yard field goal by McCormick.
Lomira would then score on a 6-yard run by Schaumberg to take a 26-10 lead.
Then the Grantsburg comeback was on, A 2-yard run by Burkman and a 29-yard field goal from McCormick would cut the lead to 26-19. But Lomira would get a couple of first downs and run out the clock.
Lomira would be led by Schaumberg who ran 29 times for 216 yards and 3 touchdowns, he also caught a pass for 8 yards. Goebel would go 7/10 through the air for 73 yards and a TD, he also ran 6 times for 19 yards.
Grantsburg was led by Brock Matheny who went 24/37 for 283 yards. Burkman would ad 68 yards and 2 TDs on 22 carries.
For both teams, it is the first WIAA State Football Trophy.
