LOYAL, WI (OnFocus) – The Loyal School District will be looking to upgrade multiple aspects of their campus with an $11.7 million referendum to be voted on during the spring election April 5.

The referendum would include:

  • Technology education and agricultural renovation
  • Classroom renovations including vocal music, art, special education, 4K and 5K, and agriculture
  • Renovations in the Elementary gym to create a multipurpose space with accessibility and additional seating
  • Secure main entrance, central office, commons, and cafeteria addition/renovation

The building was constructed in 1937 and seven additions have been added since. According to a facilities assessment, the building is structurally sound and has been well maintained.

The district said in an informational section on its website that staff have researched the proposed increase and determined that it is vital to safety and keeping a student-focused approach.

“At the School District of Loyal, we are committed to Ensuring All Students Learn,” the statement said. “The District has spent more than two years studying, planning, and engaging with our community to create a facilities solution that is student focused, addresses our most immediate needs, and reflects the priorities of our taxpayers. Last fall, the District conducted a community-wide survey that allowed residents to provide feedback on facility improvements. The Board of Education took this feedback and created a referendum solution that reflects our community’s priorities.”

Principal Chris Lindner took the time to give a virtual tour of the planned upgrades:

More videos about the proposed upgrades can be seen on the Loyal School District Facebook Page.

If passed, the referendum would add approximately $121.50 in yearly taxes to a property owner with $75,000 in assessed value for those within the district. Likewise, for a property owner of a $100,000 and $150,000 property, taxes would increase by $162 and $243 annually, respectively.

More information about the referendum is available on the Loyal School District website.
