AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale girls basketball team lost its second game in a row, falling 50-42 to Loyal in a first-round game at the Auburndale Holiday Invitational on Thursday afternoon.
Auburndale shot just 28 percent (14-for-50), but made six 3-pointers to stay within striking distance.
The Apaches trailed 25-23 at halftime but couldn’t make up any ground as Loyal (7-3) pulled away.
Georgi Schmutzer made three 3-pointers and scored 11 points to lead Auburndale (4-6). Natalie Aue added 10 points and six rebounds, and Hailey Grimm had seven rebounds for the Apaches.
Auburndale will play Neillsville at 2:30 p.m. Friday in its second game at the tournament. Loyal plays Augusta at 1 p.m.
