Wood County Sheriff’s Department Updates on Town of Richfield Shooting

TOWNSHIP OF RICHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – On May 30, 2022, the Wood County Sheriff’s Department investigated a shooting which took place in the Town of Richfield, Wood County, Wisconsin. The Wood County Sheriff’s Department and Marshfield Police Department Special Response Team were able to take Jason R. Schultz (Age: 29) into custody in connection with the shooting.

Schultz is being held at the Wood County Jail and charges of First-Degree Reckless Injury and Bail Jumping- Felony are being forwarded to the Wood County District Attorney’s Office.

The male victim, who is a 33 year-old Marshfield man, is being treated at the Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield, Wisconsin and his status is unknown. The victim was shot in the pelvic area with a .22 caliber long gun.

During the investigation it was determined that Schultz and the victim were having a disagreement over an air compressor and the hose for the air compressor.

The public was never in any danger and this was an isolated incident. Half Mile Drive between US 10 and STH 80 was closed for several hours as a precaution.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Marshfield Police Department, Wisconsin Rapids Fire and Ambulance, Marshfield Fire and Ambulance and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
