Man Injured in Wisconsin Rapids Fire

A residential fire was reported at the corner of Gardner Street and 9th Ave. S which began shortly before 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

The Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department responded along with Grand Rapids and Port Edwards fire departments.

A man was transported to Marshfield Medical Center due to burns from the fire while others made it out of the house safely, according to the Wisconsin Rapids fire chief. During the process firefighters opened up the roof and worked to contain an active fire which had spread to the second floor of the home.

There is extensive damage to the home due to fire and smoke damage. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Update: Wisconsin Rapids was assisted by fire departments from Port Edwards, Grand Rapids, Biron, Vesper, Nekoosa, plus Saratoga first responders, Wisconsin Rapids Police Department, and Wood County Dispatch.
